Detox your body – I tried a 3-day juice cleanse for the first time – Juice Cleanse Review

Why I did a juice cleanse

I always wanted to try a juice cleanse, even before knowing about the benefits of it, just because I have seen others do it. After eating pretty unhealthy for a couple of weeks, which is pretty untypical for me, I did not feel good and started researching. Why do a juice cleanse? There are multiple benefits such as bolstering your immune system, cleansing your body and mind, and gaining fresh energy and strength. Of course, a side benefit is weight loss. Keep reading for my 3-day juice cleanse review.

Where to start

Since this was my first time doing a juice cleanse, I decided to order a juice cleanse rather than making the juices at home. Alternatively, anyone with a juice extractor can make the juices at home. I decided to order my juices from I-Do-Bio because it was important to me that only the best and cleanest vegetables and fruits go into the juices. Unfortunately, the juices come in plastic bottles. Ideally, I wish it would have been glass bottles. I decided to order a 3-day juice cleanse which consisted of 24 juices, so 8 for each day. With the juices, I received some more information about my cleanse.

Preparation

Juice cleanse review

I was ready and so motivated to do this 3-day juice cleanse! I was convinced that I am doing something good for my body and that I would feel healthier and stronger afterwards. In preparation of my juice cleanse, I started eating light food 2 days prior.

It is recommended to drink one juice every 2 to 3 hours. I usually get up at 7 to walk our dog so I created a timeline that works for me. The order in which you drink the juices is always the same and you get the same juices for each day.

juice cleanse review

Day 1

I was excited to try out the juices and they did not taste as bad as I expected. I was not feeling hungry until around 6 p.m. that day. Even though I was not hungry all day, I could not stop thinking about all the food I wanted to eat. It was more about wanting to eat than needing it. My body was fine but my mind gave me a hard time. I had my last juice at 10 p.m. and went to bed a little hungry.

At 4 a.m. that night, I woke up not feeling good at all. I felt dizzy, weak and felt like I was about to pass out. When I tried to go back to sleep, I couldn’t. I was debating whether I should eat something but I was too determined that I would persevere with this cleanse. At 5am I gave up and ate a banana. Honestly, I was pretty upset that I didn’t even last one day but I had to listen to my body. Nevertheless, I continued to drink the juices the next day. I had the feeling that I cheated since I ate a banana, which messed with my head a little bit. But I tried to carry on and still make the best of it.

Day 2

The next day was easier than the first day. I still thought about food a lot, especially about sweets and chocolate. However, I was not hungry anymore. The juices did taste better and better and the day went by so quickly since I drank a juice every 2 hours.

Day 3

On the last day, I had to go to class early in the morning and I have to say that I felt pretty weak. I still wasn’t hungry but I felt exhausted and my body was weak. Just like day 1 and day 2, I was craving food and sweets, but again, this was more my mind than my body. During that last day, I had the feeling I could do 3 more days. Maybe it was because I knew it was the last day and that I could eat again tomorrow or maybe I was just getting used to not eating and not feeling hungry.

Day 4 – The Day after

The morning after the 3-day juice cleanse I started with a light breakfast. During those three days, I promised myself that I would eat differently, be more conscious, not watch videos while eating, just concentrating on every bite. Well, I have to admit that didn’t last very long. I was just too excited to eat again. But I did eat slower, just because I felt like I was already full and I couldn’t eat that much. I only had light food the next two days and I felt good.

Bottom Line

One thing that stood out was that I was craving food rather than being hungry. I was hungry at times but I was craving food all day long.

All in all I can say that I did feel better and stronger after finishing the juice cleanse. My skin improved a lot and I also lost some weight around my waist and my stomach.

I was (partially) proud of myself that I did it (aside from that one banana I ate).

I do have to say that the nights were the worst for me. During the day, I didn’t have any problems, but during the nights I felt miserable. I was hungry, feeling dizzy and weak. Also, I was constantly freezing, which makes sense since I did not eat anything. I did not feel like working out and I was definitely not able to on the last day. I have to say that it definitely takes a lot of discipline to do a juice cleanse.

Would I do it again? Yes and no. Just because my body gave me such a hard time during the night, I might try a soup cleanse or a combination of a soup and juice cleanse instead of a juice cleanse. That way, I can eat a soup before going to bed.

Juice cleanse review

If you are thinking about trying a juice cleanse, here are 10 tips:

1. Do it for the right reasons

Your goal should be to detox and to do something good for your body. Losing weight is a nice side effect but this should not be your goal. Don’t expect to lose a certain number.

2. Ease in and ease out

Preparation is key! Don’t eat a burger and french fries the day before you start your juice cleanse. You need to prepare your body for the juice cleanse. This also goes for the day after the juice cleanse.

3. Try a juice cleanse during spring/summer

We tend to eat less during warmer days and our body does not need that much food. This is why the warmer months might be a better time to do a cleanse.

4. Start slow

You can detox for up tp 12 days. However, for starters, I would recommend doing a 3-day cleanse like I did, or even just testing out one day before you start an actual cleanse.

5. Know your body and listen to your body

This is very important! Listen to any signs your body might give you. If you’re not feeling good at all, you don’t have to push through.

6. Get enough sleep

Your body needs a lot of rest. Sleep and rest a lot during those days.

7. Don’t exercise excessively

You can exercise if you feel like it, but you should not exaggerate. Again, listen to your body. If you feel strong, do a light workout or some yoga but never force it.

8. Prepare a schedule

Write down the times you want to drink each juice. You are welcome to use my schedule. However, the schedule should make sense for you. Some people stay up longer or get up earlier than I do, so your schedule needs to be adjusted. Make sure to pace it out evenly throughout the day. You don’t want to be drinking your last juice for the day at 4pm or have half of them left at 10pm. You should not have huge gaps but rather drink them every 2-3 hours. I recommend doing a schedule in advance and setting reminders.

9. Drink enough water

This is super hard since you are already drinking a lot but it is still important to drink water during the day to stay hydrated.

10. Chew while drinking the juice

This might sound weird and it feels weird too but you can trick your body into thinking you are actually eating. This also helps with the feeling of hunger.
